The next ride is as follows:

Ride Location:  Big Spring Wash – across from Wild Horse restaurant.

Date/Time: Friday May 22, 2026
; Meet to leave at 8:00AM

Directions to Air-Down: 303 to Lake Pleasant Road to White Horse parking lot where we will air down.

Description: We start the trail at the W Carefree Highway and the Agua Fria River. We drive down the Agua Fria River and climb the trail up the hill and hit the Big Spring Wash and travel up the wash. We will need to take some bypasses out of the wash due to several big waterfalls, which we could try if so inclined. We will either take the cuttoff to Hwy 74 or follow another wash back to the start of the trail. Trail is approx. 16 miles long.

Trail rating:  2.0-2.5 out of 5

.

NOTE: Be prepared!  Arrive at the meet up with a full tank of gas, a snack, lunch in case we get delayed and plenty of water, as well as tools and 1st Aid supplies that you should have on any trail.

MEET at Cimmaron Parking Lot at 8AM

Four-wheel drive required in places due to terrain and loose traction for safe, easy travel.  Low-range gears used occasionally.  Tire load range C or greater required.

TRAIL DETAILS:  This trail is not in the Wells book.  I have combined portions of two to three trails together to make this ride including a portion of Lyle’s Pipeline Trail Ride.

We will depart the Cimmaron parking lot and proceed to Hwy 303N, then to Pleasant Valley Parkway, to I-17 north and plan on  air down on the west side of I-17 at the Table Mesa exit.  After air-down, we will start the trail about ½ mile west of the air down spot.  The trail then proceeds north to a refuse site and then makes a big loop back south ultimately terminating at the Table Mesa exit on the east side of I-17.  As part of the ride, we will traverse under I-17 via a major bridge underpass which is unique and mildly challenging.

There are numerous fun obstacles most of which have by-passes except for one small ravine on the trail that may require the use of lockers.  Although I have never engaged my lockers on this obstacle, this part of the trail has become more difficult due to wash-outs etc.  Towards the end of the ride, we will pass by a steep hill that we descend called Parachute Hill.  Many in the club have been traversed down this hill and a few have climbed it back up from the bottom which is quite challenging. I encourage everyone to try this obstacle at least going down it, but there is a by- pass if you elect not to do so.  After departing Parachute Hill, we will proceed south and traverse south back to east side of the I-17 Table Mesa exit where we will air up.

I have rated this ride a 2.5 but depending on what lines and obstacles you take, it can easily be rated a 3.

I named this trail Menagerie because it provides a wide variety of obstacles, scenery, and uniqueness.  I have lead this ride many times and have always had favorable comments on the challenge, beauty and fun.

Lunch:  The ride should terminate around 2-3 PM.  Lunch will be on the trail at a shaded spot which should be around noon so plan on bringing something to eat and drink along with chairs, etc.
